Which one should you buy?
At the recent Made by Google event, the company officially unveiled its Pixel 10 lineup. This year, three new compact smartphones are coming to the market: the Pixel 10, the Pixel 10 Pro, and the larger Pixel 10 Pro XL, not to be confused with the foldable Pro Fold.
All three devices will be released on August 28, with prices starting at $799 and going up to $1,549. This difference alone shows how different these models really are. The differences go beyond size or memory capacity and apply to almost every category.
Here's a breakdown of what you get for your money in each area, and which phone stands out.
1. Size and design: understated but stylish
Google has kept the Pixel 10 lineup consistent in form, making minor changes to the finish and materials. The Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro share the same dimensions at 153 x 72 x 8.6mm, weighing 204g for the Pixel 10 and 207g for the Pro. The Pixel 10 Pro XL is larger at 163 x 77 x 8.4mm and heavier at 232g.
The base model features a glossy back paired with a matte metal frame, while the Pro and Pro XL have a different design, with matte backs and glossy metal bezels. Color choices also differ, with the Pixel 10 available in Frost, Indigo, Lemongrass, and Obsidian, while the Pro models come in Jade, Moonstone, Obsidian, and Porcelain.
Despite these differences, all three models have aluminum frames, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for durability, and IP68 water and dust protection. Each has a bright camera panel on the back, and in the US they.. .eSIM - only when Google ditched physical SIM trays to make room for mmWave 5G radios.
Winner: Draw. They all have similar physiques with slight differences.
2. Display: bigger and brighter
Displays are one of the key areas where these phones start to differ. The Pixel 10 features a 6.3-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2424 x 1080 pixels, a refresh rate of 60 Hz to 120 Hz, and a peak brightness of 3000 nits.
The Pixel 10 Pro keeps the same size, but has an increased resolution to 2856 by 1280 pixels and uses LTPO technology, which allows the refresh rate to scale from 1Hz to 120Hz depending on what's on the screen. This means smoother scrolling and better battery life. It also gets brighter up to 3300 nits.
The Pro XL expands the possibilities with a 6.8-inch screen, 2992 by 1344 resolution and the same LTPO features as the Pro. Each phone is Super Actua branded, but only the Pro models offer all the benefits of LTPO.
Winner: Pixel 10 Pro XL. It offers the largest and sharpest screen, perfect for those who prefer video streaming, gaming or just a bigger canvas.
3. Productivity: New tensor muscle
All three phones are powered by Google's new Tensor G5 chip, which was built by...TSMC This is the first major architectural update to the Tensor line, with promises of 34% faster performance and vastly improved power efficiency compared to the previous generation. The chip also has upgraded processors for photography, video, graphics and artificial intelligence.
This is where the Pro models can come out ahead. Although all three phones use the same chip, the Pixel 10 only comes with 12GB of RAM, while the Pro and XL have 16GB each.
Google hasn't confirmed whether the standard model's chip runs at a different clock frequency, but the smaller amount of RAM could mean it lags in demanding applications, multitasking or gaming. Until the test results are in, the performance race remains too close to predict.
Winner: It's too early to tell.
4. Battery: endurance and speed
Battery life has often been a stumbling block for Pixel phones, but Google claims that the Pixel 10 line will now last up to 30 hours on a single charge, a significant step up from last year's 24 hours. This improvement is made possible by larger batteries and a more efficient Tensor G5 chip.
The Pixel 10 has a 4,970 mAh battery, the Pro is slightly smaller at 4,870 mAh, and the Pro XL has a 5,200 mAh battery. The charging speed is also different. The Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro support 30W wired charging and 15W wireless charging via Qi2, while the Pro XL supports 45W wired charging and 25W wireless charging. All three also work with PixelSnap, Google's new magnetic accessory system.
Winner: Pixel 10 Pro XL. For active users, the XL is the obvious choice thanks to its larger battery and faster charging.
5. Cameras: More equality across the board
For the first time, Google is giving the base Pixel 10 a triple lens that matches the Pro models in terms of versatility, meaning each phone comes with a wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto lens.
The Pixel 10 features a 48-megapixel primary camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10.8-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, along with a 10.5-megapixel front-facing camera.
The Pro and Pro XL models feature a 50-megapixel main lens, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 48-megapixel telephoto lens. The resolution of the front camera has also increased dramatically to 42 megapixels.
These models also offer advanced video recording features such as 8K video recording, night video and Google's Video Boost feature. Zoom is another area where the Pro models dominate, offering 100x ultra-wide magnification compared to the Pixel 10's 20x.
Winner: Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL. The Pixel 10 makes photography more accessible at a lower price, but for serious photo and video work, the Pro models stand out.
6. Price: Clear separation
Speaking of cost, this is where the phones diverge most sharply. The Pixel 10 starts at $799 for the 128GB version and goes up to $899 if you want the 256GB version.
The Pixel 10 Pro starts at $999 for 128GB and goes up to $1,099 for 256GB, $1,219 for 512GB, and up to $1,449 for the 1TB model. The Pixel 10 Pro XL starts at $1,199 for 256GB, then goes up to $1,319 for 512GB and tops out at $1,549 for the 1TB version.
That means the most expensive Pixel 10 Pro XL costs almost twice as much as the entry-level Pixel 10, making memory planning just as important as choosing between models.
Winner: Pixel 10. The standard Pixel 10 has the best balance between price and performance.
7. Software: The same Google experience
Software is the most consistent field of all. Every Pixel 10 comes with Android 16, seven years of guaranteed updates, and the latest Gemini Nano AI tools. Features like Magic Cue and Camera Coach work throughout.
The only significant differences are in the connection. The Pixel 10 supports Wi-Fi 6E, while the Pro and Pro XL move to Wi-Fi 7 for faster wireless connections.
All three operate at sub-6GHz, C-band and mmWave 5G, offer Bluetooth 6.0, dual-band GPS, NFC, and stereo speakers. Each includes an under-display fingerprint sensor, though only the Pro models have a built-in thermometer.
Winner: Draw. In everyday use, the impressions are essentially identical.
Verdict
The Pixel 10 lineup gives buyers more choice than ever. The standard Pixel 10 offers incredible value with its triple camera and new Tensor chip at a significantly lower price.
The Pixel 10 Pro combines improved features, a sharper LTPO display, more RAM and more powerful cameras, all without exceeding its price or size. The Pro XL is designed for those who want everything from the biggest display to the biggest battery and fastest charging, but at a premium price.
